Sorry for your loss. Every well-meaning soul deserves a beautiful and dignified tribute like this.

I loved this band. Same age and had known Ari in Rye back then. I remember the CBGB’s show well, this is a trip. Thanks for digging up all the old tracks, they are just so good. Maybe bleachers or fruitbats could do a tribute and revive what serendipitously was very well placed between lawn boy and mellow gold.

That would be truly dope. Thanks for reading Jack!

You write so well. I went to Princeton with Reuben’s father Quintus. He took his son’s death pretty hard, as you can imagine. Who knows what the Fates have in store? Who knows whence these demons come?

Thanks for your note Eric. Ours is not to reason why… but all I can say is, Reuben left an outsized impression on all of those who witnessed his genius, communed with his soul, and encountered his art, and I’m thankful to have been among them.

Scott “Rogo”. This is a truly remarkable, truly meaningful piece you wrote. Complete with some really great material. I’m really impressed with how well you nailed it. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed reading it, while looking at all the different parts of Reuben’s (and yours, Dave’s, Mike’s, etc.) life. Laura sent this to me, I’m so happy now. Sad on and off, happy on and off. Be well. Oh, also, I’m now a subscriber!

Thank Peter, and thank you on behalf of all Reuben's friends for doing everything within your power to keep his light shining for as long as possible.

Thanks so much for writing this Scott. I was lucky to discover Rueben's music almost 20 years ago and it's stuck with me over the years in the way that timeless music does. In fact, I was recently humming a Quintus tune which brought me to this post, and it's my first time learning about Rueben's life and his tragic passing. I have no doubt more people will come to love his music and hopefully something like a documentary or tribute show will be a part of that.

Thanks for that perfect tribute and history, Scott. Went to summer camp with Reuben, visited in Larchmont back in the day and went to many Quintus shows during their time, and specifically remember that show at the knitting factory... American Babies on the bill? Always thought he was a genius. Really sad to learn about his demise.

I was good friends with Reuben in high school and attended NYU at the same time as he did. What a beautiful and honest tribute. Thank you for this. I’m sure we crossed paths at one of the many shows we both attended.
